Epoxy Cost Calculator — Same Job, Every Brand, Side by Side

Enter your area and coat thickness once — material cost from every brand in our datasheet library at once, with kit rounding, per-square-foot cost and coverage basis marked.

Last updated: 2026-11-07

Quick answer

Material cost = gallons needed × brand's per-gallon rate, where gallons come from the same coverage math as everywhere else on this site: area × coats × 1.10 waste ÷ coverage rate. For a 40 sq ft countertop at 1/8", one flood coat lands between roughly $190 and $520 depending on the brand — the spread is real, and it is exactly the comparison brand-sites never show you. Enter your numbers below and every brand in the library prices your job in one pass.

Scope
Single flood coat ×1.10 waste — same math for every brand, sourced from their own pages.Deep-pour casting: use the river table calculator instead.

What moves the number

  • Coverage rate. Published rates beat theory where they exist. Primaloc's dual-verified 16 sq ft/gal flood rate means fewer gallons than the 12.8 theoretical for the same area; brands with no published chart inherit the theoretical baseline and are marked as such in the result rows.
  • Kit pricing. Per-gallon price drops as kits grow — TotalBoat TableTop runs $59.99/gal in 1-gal kits but $47.50/gal in the 4-gal kit. The calculator prices raw gallons at the reference 1-kit rate, then shows the real kit-rounded buy figure so you see both.
  • Sales. Promise and Upstart were captured at active sale prices; Stone Coat's price matched its months-old snapshot. The date is the honesty device: every price has one, and so does every rate.

Per-square-foot thinking

The result rows include cost per square foot — the number that makes quotes comparable. At 1/8" flood coat, current library prices run roughly:

Brand — productRate basis≈ $/sq ft
TotalBoat TableToppublished 12.8 sq ft/gal$4.69
Primaloc Bar & Table Toppublished 16 sq ft/gal$4.94
Promise Table Toptheoretical 12.8 (no chart)$4.78
Upstart Table Topderived 12.8 (calculator basis)$7.42
Stone Coat Countertopcalculator basis 20$6.31

One coat, before waste factor in dollars (the gallons math already carries it). Values recompute from the live JSON in the calculator above — this static table is the shape, not the authority.

Where the money actually goes

Resin is the biggest line but not the only one. A realistic first countertop budget adds: mixing supplies (graduated cups, stir sticks — $10–20), surface prep (sandpaper, cleaner — $15–30), torch or heat gun for bubbles ($25 if you don't own one), pigments if you're coloring ($10–25), and for kitchens a UV-stable topcoat or a maintenance plan ($20–40). Epoxy itself is usually 70–85% of the total — the calculator keeps that biggest line honest so the tail costs don't surprise you. For the volume side of the same budget, how much epoxy do I need works the gallons first; for the rates those dollars divide by, the coverage chart is the reference sheet.

Compare, then verify

When two brands land within 10% of each other, the money argument is over and the spec argument starts: max coat thickness (TotalBoat ThickSet pours 1/2", classic TableTop only 1/4"), recoat windows, UV stabilization, and the honesty of the published data itself. The brand comparison hub carries the full spec tables with sources and dates, the coverage chart lists every rate behind the math, and how much epoxy do I need works the volume side before the money side.

FAQ

Why do brand costs differ so much for the same project?

Two compounding factors: coverage rate and kit price. TotalBoat TableTop covers 12.8 sq ft/gal at 1/8" and sells 1-gal kits at $59.99; Primaloc covers 16 sq ft/gal at $79/gal; Stone Coat's calculator basis runs 20 sq ft/gal at $126.13/gal. Higher coverage lowers gallons; lower price per gallon lowers cost — the brands that win on one axis rarely win on both, which is why a side-by-side number beats any single brand's 'value' claim.

Are the prices live?

No — they are the official checkout prices captured when our datasheet collection ran (2026-11-06/07), with the capture date on each brand page. Epoxy pricing moves with sales and bundle sizes. Treat every total as a planning estimate and confirm the current price at checkout; the math method, not the cent, is what the calculator guarantees.

What's the difference between 'total cost' and the 'buy' figure?

Total cost is the pure math: gallons needed × per-gallon rate. The buy figure rounds up to whole kit combinations you can actually purchase (e.g. 3.4 gallons → one 4-gal kit), because epoxy ships in fixed sizes and short-buying is the one mistake you can't fix mid-pour.

Does this include tools, pigments and topcoats?

No — resin and hardener only. Graduated cups, torches, pigments, sandpaper and (for some projects) a polyurethane UV topcoat are real budget lines that vary too widely by project to model honestly. Plan roughly $20–60 of consumables for a first countertop job.
